Joleen Sanders
Owner/Director/Instructor
Joleen Sanders has been dancing since the age of 3 years old and has always known one day she would be the owner and teacher of her own school. She took classes from local studios growing up, and in high school discovered that dancing was going to play a major part in her life. Working in day cares, assisting in dance class, and spending time with children, gave her the experience needed to teach in the dance field. As Owner & Director of Joleen's Starz of the South, her goal is to share her knowledge of dance, theatre, and the arts while giving back to the communities of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Joleen is a certified dance instructor and member of Dance Masters of America. She attended the DMA Dance Teacher Training School from 1990-1992, at Kent State University in Ohio. She attends many seminars and conventions throughout each year to keep up with the latest techniques, trends, and styles of dance. She has taken classes under many of today's top dance educators in the country.
Before opening the dance studio, she performed in many shows and revues on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, such as, Greg Thompson Productions : Dancin' In The Streets, StageStruck, Masters of Illusion, Viva Las Vegas, Hocus Pocus, and many others. Joleen has been studying dance for over 30 years, and is thrilled to be able to pass on the love for dance to all of her students. Celebrating her 11th year with the studio is a dream come true. Joleen is currently teaching Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Creative Movement, Musical Theatre, Acrobatics and also works with the Starz Competition and Performance Team.

Julie started dancing when she was 3 years old. Dancing was a major part of her life as a child and she is delighted to still be involved in the arts. Julie has been a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Born and raised in Gulfport, she moved to Vancleave in 2006. She and her husband Sam have 4 children together. Their daughters have been both students and instructors at Joleen’s since joining this wonderful community. Julie is responsible for coordinating all studio business activities, including registration, fund raisers, account management, and anything else that comes up. Her organizational skills, patience, and love for the children are a great asset to the studio. If you have a question about something going on at Starz of the South, just ask Julie!
