CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
CREATIVE MOVEMENT (3-5 YRS)- Introduction to basic dance forms (tap, ballet, jazz) using props, games, and appropriate children's music. Emphasis is on imaginative dance, coordination, and rythym. Basic tumbling skills are also introduced. Class is appropriate for potty trained children.
TAP- Rhythmic dance style creating sounds with taps on the shoes. Students of all ages can learn to brush, flap, shuffle, and ballchange. From pre-tap to advanced level tap, combinations are put to a variety of music styles. The styles we study and teach are traditional, broadway-theater style, tap jam, and some stomp techniques.
JAZZ- Beginners learn correct body alignment, guided stretching, and fun combinations that introduce the basic fundamentals such as body isolations, simple jazz turns, and kicks. Intermediate and advanced level jazz students learn the fundamentals of classic theater style jazz that incorporates high kicks, turns, leaps, and jumps. Each level involves a steady progression to more complex moves as the student improves in technique.
BALLET- Ballet has centuries of tradition as one of the world's most elegant dance arts where placement of the body, poise, grace, strength, balance, and alignment are emphasized. All levels utilize the appropriate classical terminology and includes barre work, adagio, petite allegro, grande allegro, and turns. Classes range in level dependent on ability.
POINTE'- For the intermediate and advanced dancer, this level of ballet is for students who have trained for 2 years or more, by invitation from instructor only. This is for the serious ballet student who has extensive previous training, and also must take a ballet class to supplement their training. Muscular capability and proper body alignment plays a factor in the readiness of the student.
LYRICAL- A combination of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Lyrical is more emotional than classic jazz, less disciplined than ballet, and pulls movement from modern dance. Over the years, it has developed into a free-flowing style that is set to slower music or ballads. The movements usually coincide with the theme or lyrics of a particular piece of music. A supplemental ballet class is required to enroll in this class.
HIP-HOP- We will have you jumpin', turnin', spinnin', and moving to upbeat music. Our version of hip-hop is funky street dance with a jazz based technique. Prior dance training is helpful, but not required. A supplemental jazz class is suggested to help the student connect traditional dance steps with the choreography of the routines learned in class. Age appropriate music will always be a priority.
ACRO/TUMBLING- Beginner tumbling classes are structured to increase coordination, strength, and flexibility while learning to perform basic tumbling skills such as forward and backward rolls, headstands, handstands, push up backbend and cartwheels. Intermediate and advanced level students will continue to progress in their skills and work on walkovers, arials, backhandsprings, back tucks, and many other tumbling tricks. Acro-dance (in our studio) is combining the tumbling skills along with technical dance moves and performing them in a choreographed routine.
VOICE/PIANO - At this time, we have voice, piano, and beginner saxaphone lessons. Please inquire by phone for more information. The lessons are private and are scheduled on an individual basis.
